Maple Valley has been honored with a 2016 Playful City USA designation for the 1st time. The national recognition program honors cities and towns across the country for making their cities more playable.  Playful City USA is a national recognition program that honors cities and towns across the country for taking bold steps that make it easy for all kids to get the balanced and active play they need to thrive. These communities are recognized for their efforts to create more playable, family-friendly cities.

Through policy changes, programs, and infrastructure investments, Playful City USA communities are driving a deeper understanding of the importance of play and engaging their citizens to reimagine cities with kids in mind. The Maple Valley City Council proclaimed June 25, 2016 as Get Out and Play Day!  in the City of Maple Valley and urge all citizens to join by engaging in outdoor play.

Parks & Recreation Department will promote outdoor play through the following:
• Kids Bike Challenge and Safety Rodeo
• Get Out and Play Day: Lake Wilderness Beach Opens: swimming, boating, park play
• Kids Festival
• Camp Wild Summer Day Camp
• Music in Park series and Family Movie Night in the Park
