Maple Valley City Council appoints new Position 5 council member
The City of Maple Valley City Council has appointed Syd Dawson to fill the vacant Position 5 seat. Dawson replaces Megan Sheridan, who resigned from City Council in February.
As a 19-year resident of Maple Valley, Dawson has served on the Highlands at Lake Wilderness Homeowners Association Board and the Tahoma School District Elementary School Boundary Committee. He currently serves on the Maple Valley Historical Society Board of Directors and is the President of the Greater Maple Valley Community Center Board. Diversification of the economic base, transportation, and future development are what he believes the city’s top priorities to be.
Dawson is currently employed with the Boeing Company, as a manager for Everett Airplane Programs Tooling.
State statute provides that council vacancies be filled by City Council appointment. Dawson will serve until the next City Council election, to be held in November 2019.
A formal swearing-in ceremony will be held on Monday, May 14, when Dawson will join the full City Council at the dais for the regular business meeting that night.
