Parks and Recreation Addresses Safety Concerns at Lake Wilderness Beach
In response to recently noted safety issues at Lake Wilderness Park Swim Beach, the City of Maple Valley Parks and Recreation Department contracted with divers to cut and remove old dock pilings that had emerged as lake soil receded. If you were a swimmer this summer, you may have noticed buoys staff used to identify hazards. Park staff applied to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife for a permit in order to have these obstacles removed. The permit was approved on August 14 and on August 16, all identified hazards were cut to the mudline. Staff will monitor the swim area annually for potential increased exposure.
